         The Department of History was established at the Government Degree College, Kanda in the year 2009-2010. It was started with a three-year bachelor’s level program i.e., B.A. The classes at the master’s level were started with the academic session 2017-18. There were three posts for teaching staff sanctioned in the department at the beginning of the department. Later one post reduced in 2021 and at present two faculty members are working in the department profoundly involved in teaching and research. The department runs B.A. and M.A. programs in the semester mode. B.A. three-year Course that is segregated into 6 semesters and M.A. is a two-year course that is further segregated into 4 semesters. Papers taught in undergraduate level are as follow- Ancient India, Medieval period, Modern India, Indian society and culture and World History. At the Post graduate level department gives deeper knowledge of the subject. Ancient India group is being run in the department at PG level. There are four papers in all three semesters but in final semester there are three papers, and one viva-voce is taken by external examiner. Studying history helps us to understand how events occurred in past and how they affected today’s world.  It also develops the abilities to create a better path for the society. The department is working actively for the academic and all-round development of the students.  Various programs such as speech, essay, quiz, poster, slogan competition, national days etc. are organized by the department from time to time for the overall development of the students.
